Store Your Files in the Cloud

MegaCloud is a free cloud storage service that allows you to store and share files online for easier access. If you are looking for reliable storage with good security features and decent speed, this utility app is perfect for you.

New Cloud Solution

When you think of cloud storage services, you might think of Google Drive or Dropbox. These two are arguably the front-runners when it comes to providing users a way to save files online, but, if you are looking for an alternative, then you might want to check out MegaCloud.

MegaCloud offers users with large storage space, totaling to 15GB for the free version. If you wish to have more storage, you can sign up to their paid version which can give you up to 8TB of storage space. What sets this apart from other cloud storage services is that it has a standalone application that you can sync into the web version.

MegaCloud's interface is completely web-based and works like Google Drive. You can create various folders where you can drag and drop files. It also allows you to add friends to your contacts, so you can share your files and even send messages. Even if the person you are sharing the file to is not using MegaCloud, you can still add him or her to your contact list by adding his or her email address.

MegaCloud offers real-time collaboration allowing two or more users to edit the same file at the same time. It also lets users share files publicly so that anyone with the link of the file can access them.

To sync the files between the web and the desktop client, all you need to do is drag the file and drop it on the sync folder. This will enable you to access the file even if you are not using the desktop where you have installed the app. The sync is done when your system is idle so that MegaCloud will not interfere with your work. It will also wait until the least amount of bandwidth is being used to make the transfer faster. You can use any folder in the hard drive as your primary sync folder.

Creating your MegaCloud is also a piece of cake. All you need to do is provide an email address and a strong password. You can also choose to get a randomly generated master key that you can use in case you lose your password. This master key will be given in the form of a text file.

Security and File Restoration

Security is, perhaps, MegaCloud's claim to shine. The cloud service pays mind to your security, starting with your account password. It will assess the strength of the password you provide and allows you to make proper changes when it finds your password easy to crack. It also does not save passwords into its servers. So if you lost both your password and your master key, there is no way for you to access your files.

MegaCloud uses 256-bit AES encryption to secure your data. The service encrypts your data first before it transfers them to the servers. It uses end-to-end encryption during the transfer, ensuring that no one can intercept your data during the transit.

In addition to file backup, MegaCloud also lets you restore files easily. All you need to do is download the file. However, you cannot direct where to place your downloaded file, so you have to locate them manually.

Our Verdict

If you are looking for an alternative cloud service, you cannot go wrong with MegaCloud. It offers a backup solution with a big cloud storage pool so you can save lots of files. The app comes with a user-friendly interface that lets you navigate the app easily. And with a high-end security protocol, you can be sure that no one can see the files that you save on cloud. Not even the government.
